Systems Interface Awarded Multi-Million Pound Contract For
London Southend Airport

After significant competition Systems Interface Ltd has been awarded a major contract by Stobart Group for the complete upgrade of the Air Traffic Control facilities at London Southend Airport. The £3 million project will commence with the construction of the long-awaited new air traffic control tower in late January 2010. The control tower will be equipped with state of the art systems with specialist avionics installation and commissioning completed by Systems Interface.

Systems Interface won this prestigious contract through the combination of an excellent commercial proposal coupled with a detailed technical design, which fully meets the Airport’s requirements for this specialised area.

The contract includes design, installation and commissioning of all ATC Systems in the new Control Tower building and an upgrade of Airfield Ground Lighting and Navigational Aids. The Avionics project will be a ‘turnkey’ delivery, with Systems Interface responsible for all aspects from initial design through to civil works, installation, commissioning and safety documentation.

Paul Gurney, Operations Director of Systems Interface, stated “The experience and reputation we have built up over the years for strong systems integration skills, delivering on time and within budget is clearly being recognised. We are delighted to be awarded this contract.”

The airport’s Managing Director, Alastair Welch said "The new air traffic control tower is another stage in Southend Airport’s investment and development programme to enhance the airport providing the opportunity for local people to fly to a range of holiday and business destinations across Europe."

This multi-million pound development scheme will not only see the upgrade of the complete Air Traffic Control Facilities by Systems Interface, but also the construction of a new £12 million railway station on the airport’s eastern boundary providing regular services into London Liverpool Street Station.
